Ask your question
My rotary job won't rotate - or the text carved mirrored/backwards. What's wrong with the output?

Why this happens
Rotary output depends entirely on a wrapping post-processor, a post that converts one linear axis into rotation:
- A non-wrapping post was selected. The machine literally runs the flat coordinates (Y moves, nothing rotates).
- The wrap definition does not match the machine. The post's
ROTARY_WRAP_XorROTARY_WRAP_Ystatement names the wrong axis letter. In the post-processor documentation,ROTARY_WRAP_Y=Ameans the Y moves are wrapped around a cylinder and output as "A", andROTARY_WRAP_X=Bdoes the same for X moves output as "B". A wrong letter means wrong-axis or wrong-direction rotation. - Job orientation does not match the wrap axis. A job set up "Along X Axis" wraps Y (Y is the angle around the cylinder), and "Along Y Axis" wraps X.
The fix
- Pick a wrapping post for your controller. Wrapped post-processors are labeled as wrapping in the Save Toolpaths list.
- Backwards or mirrored text or reversed rotation: users report fixing this by editing a copy of the post (Machine > Post-Processor Management > Customize) to change the axis letter or reverse the rotation direction, but a negative axis letter is not a documented statement, so test any change with an air cut. Alternatively, mirror the artwork before toolpathing.
- Confirm job orientation: cylinder along X means Y is wrapped, and along Y means X is wrapped.
- Controller side: verify the A-axis steps-per-degree so a 360 degree command is one true revolution.
Pro tips
- Ovals instead of circles in the simulation are a display artifact of the wrapped preview. Parts machine round, so trust flat-view dimensions.
- First rotary run: air-cut above an empty rotary axis and watch. Rotation direction and wrap errors are obvious in seconds.
