Part of my job turned transparent (ghosted) after I made the material bigger. Why didn't the zero plane grow with it?

Why it happens

The official documentation describes Add Zero Plane as creating a component that is the size of your job setup with a height of zero. The key word is component: once created, it is an ordinary component and does not change when you later edit the Job Size. A forum user who lengthened a finished project saw the new strip of material drawn transparent in the 3D view. A regular explained that the zero plane was still the old size, and the asker confirmed that deleting it and creating a new one fixed the view at once. A second user with a two-sided job in 12.504 described the same thing as limit planes stuck at the old X and Y size.

Two fixes

  1. Delete and recreate. In the Component Tree delete the old zero plane, then add a new one with Add Zero Plane (Model menu, Create Component). In Aspire only, the documentation also notes that holding Shift while clicking Create Shape - Plane creates a zero plane the size of the material instead of a flat component from selected vectors. VCarve Pro has no Create Shape tools, so use Add Zero Plane there.
  2. Resize the existing one. Select the zero plane in the Component Tree, switch to the 3D view and drag its handles to the new extents, or select it and use Set Size from the 2D view. The second user confirmed this worked.

Why the preview looked right

The toolpath preview draws the material block, which hides the problem. Closing the preview returns to the composite model, where the undersized plane shows.

Pro tips

  • After any Job Size change, check every full-sheet component (zero planes, backgrounds, textured panels); none of them scale unless Design Scaling was checked in Job Setup.
  • Recalculate all toolpaths after resizing, since 3D toolpaths limited by Model Boundary use component extents.
  • Name the zero plane in the tree so you can find it quickly.
