What did each patch (12.503 to) fix, and is it worth installing the latest build?

What the patches are

Version 12.5 first shipped as build 12.502. Every build after that is a free patch that fixes bugs and adds small improvements. The official release notes list them all. Highlights that affect everyday work:

  • 12.503: crash fixes for importing a 3D model into a rotary job, nudging during node editing, and nesting with a boundary layer; the 3D view no longer drifts when zooming with the mouse wheel.
  • 12.504: fixed a crash during simulation rendering, fixed "Select all duplicate vectors" missing some duplicates, fixed tool selection for VCarve Inlay toolpaths.
  • 12.505: a large batch. Drill toolpath centers could be slightly off with certain vectors, parts with small overlaps could fail to nest, and several crashes (Texture Toolpath, STL export, toolpath tree) were fixed. The 3D node editing right-click menu gained delete span, insert point, insert midpoint and cut.
  • 12.506: toolpath groups no longer get lost when duplicating sheets or loading a template in a multi-sheet job; the divider between the toolpath list and the top of the Toolpaths tab can be dragged.
  • 12.507: model position is set correctly when a sheet is duplicated.
  • 12.508: support for the Advanced Machining Module, a file format change (see the compatibility entry), and snapping for the Tilt and Fade anchors.
  • 12.509: the snap grid now draws in the 2D view when switched on.
  • 12.510: 3D Roughing no longer cuts slices in the wrong order when toolpaths are merged; clearer warnings when saving laser toolpaths to an incompatible post-processor.
  • 12.511: toolpaths saved from a sheet that is not the selected one now use that sheet's own material thickness for Home Z, Safe Z and Start Z; Redo (Ctrl+Y) works in node editing; the Drill toolpath vector selector finds matching circles in metric jobs.

Should you install it?

Yes, in most cases. The 12.510 and 12.511 fixes touch real machine output (roughing order, Z heights on multi-sheet jobs). The one thing to plan for is the 12.508 file format change if you share files with a computer on an older build.

Pro tips

  • If you switched to the software renderer because of the simulation crash, the 12.504 notes say you can set Edit > Options > 3D View Settings > Use Software Renderer back to No.
  • Read the notes inside the program at Help > Release Notes.
  • See the entry on checking your version and installing patches.
