What does "An unknown error occurred while accessing an unnamed file" mean when I save?

What the message means
The software tried to write your job file and the location it was writing to stopped answering partway through. The official FAQ ties this message to saving straight onto a network location: small connection faults that you would never notice while browsing are enough to break a save. The file name shows as "unnamed" because the write failed before it finished.
Usual causes, most likely first:
- Saving directly to a network drive or NAS.
- Saving directly into a cloud-synced folder (Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive) while the sync program is touching the file.
- A USB stick that is failing or was pulled out.
How to fix it
- Click OK on the message. Your job is still open in the program, so do not close it.
- Use File > Save As and pick a folder on the computer's own drive, such as Documents.
- Confirm the save finished, then keep working from that local copy.
- When you are done for the day, copy the finished .crv or .crv3d file to the network or cloud folder as a backup.
The maker's guidance is the same for shared and synced folders in general: save to the local drive first, then copy. That avoids damage from the file being read and synced while it is still being written, and it leaves you an untouched local original if someone else edits the shared copy.
How to confirm it is fixed
Save again to the local folder. No message appears, and the file opens cleanly after you close and reopen the program.
Pro tips
- Treat network and cloud folders as backup destinations, not working folders.
- The same habit applies to toolpath files: save G-code locally, then copy it to the stick or the machine's shared folder.
- Pair this with versioned saves (see the entry on Increment and Save) so one bad save never costs a whole design.
