Why does the installer stop with "NSIS Error" when I try to install the software?

Updated Oct 13, 20262 min readVCarve Pro & Aspire

What the message means

NSIS is the installer system the setup file is built with. Before it installs anything, it checks that the setup file is complete and unaltered. This error means that check failed: the installer file itself is damaged, so setup refuses to continue. It is not a license problem and it is not a problem with your computer's compatibility.

Usual causes, most likely first:

  1. Damaged installation media. The official help center says this error is usually met when installing from a media pack, such as a USB drive supplied with a machine.
  2. An incomplete or interrupted download.
  3. Security software interfering with the download or the file.

How to fix it

If you already have a V&Co customer portal account with the software registered:

  1. Ignore the USB or the old download.
  2. Sign in to the portal and download a fresh copy of the latest installer.
  3. Run that file.

If the software came on a USB with your machine and was never registered:

  1. Find the user name and license code printed inside the media case.
  2. Send a clear photo of them to the maker's support team. The help center says they will register the software manually so you can download it from the portal.

If a fresh download fails the same way, the NSIS project's own guidance is:

  1. Clear the browser cache and download again with any download manager turned off.
  2. Rename the file to a single simple word, keeping the .exe ending.
  3. Update or briefly pause antivirus and download again.
  4. Download on another computer and copy the file across.

How to confirm it is fixed

The installer opens to its first setup screen instead of the error box, and the install completes.

Pro tips

  • The portal download is always the current build, so it is the better source even when the USB works.
  • The NSIS project documents a command-line switch that skips the integrity check. Do not use it: it installs a file already known to be damaged.
  • Once installed, see the entry on sign-in and license screens for activating.
