Can I round every corner of a shape in one go instead of clicking each one? (Radius All Corners gadget)

What it is

The built-in Create Fillets tool is interactive. The official manual describes hovering near a node and clicking to fillet that one corner. For a shape with many corners that is slow.

Radius All Corners is a gadget in the official library that applies a radius to all the internal corners, all the external corners, or both, across the selected vectors in one run.

Version check first

On the library, this gadget is published for versions 9, 10.5 and 11 only. There is no version 12 download of Radius All Corners, so on version 12 or 12.5 the library offers no build made for your software. Use the built-in Create Fillets tool instead: pick Normal Fillet, set a radius (you can also type a new radius while hovering over a corner), and click each corner. It is one corner per click, but it works in 12.5 and the fillets can be removed again. If you run version 11 or earlier, the gadget steps below apply.

Steps (versions 9 to 11)

  1. Select the vectors. For text, first convert it to curves from the right-click menu, as the library page instructs.
  2. Choose Gadgets > Radius All Corners.
  3. Enter a radius for internal corners and a radius for external corners. To leave one set sharp, enter 0 for that set.
  4. Press OK.

What it produces

  • A new set of radiused vectors on a layer named Radius Corners, colored orange so you can tell them apart.
  • Your original vectors are left untouched.

Limits and judgment

  • The library states the result cannot be undone. That is why it writes new vectors instead of replacing yours. To back out, delete the vectors on the Radius Corners layer.
  • The same radius is used for every internal corner and the same for every external corner. Corners that need their own size still need the Create Fillets tool.
  • For joinery slots, a plain radius is not what you want. Use the Dog-Bone or T-Bone fillet types, covered in the dogbone entries.

Pro tips

  • An internal radius equal to or larger than your bit radius lets a profile cut follow the drawn corner exactly, with no surprise leftover.
  • Hide the original layer before toolpathing so you do not select both sets by accident.
