How do I change the size of every screw hole in a job at once? (Circle Resize gadget)

What it is

Circle Resize is a small drawing gadget from the official gadget library. It looks through the vectors you have selected, finds every circle whose diameter matches a size you give (within a tolerance you also give), and changes those circles to a new diameter. The library describes it as most useful on large jobs where all the screw holes need a different diameter. It edits vectors only. It does not create or update toolpaths.

Steps

  1. Download the version 12 build from the gadget library and install it with Gadgets > Install New Gadget.
  2. Open your job and select the vectors to search. Selecting everything is fine, because only circles in the size range are touched.
  3. Choose Gadgets > Circle Resize.
  4. Fill in the three fields:
  • Resize circles with diameter: the size the holes are now.
  • With a tolerance of: how far from that size a circle may be and still count.
  • Resize diameter to: the size you want.
  1. Click OK. Every matching circle in the selection is resized.

Limits and judgment

  • It works on the selection, so anything not selected is left alone. That is useful when one part needs different hardware.
  • A wide tolerance can catch circles you did not mean to change. Measure one of the target holes first and keep the tolerance small.
  • Imported DXF drawings sometimes carry holes that are slightly off the nominal size. A small tolerance is what lets the gadget catch those.
  • Existing drilling or pocket toolpaths still hold the old geometry until you recalculate them.

Pro tips

  • Run it once per hole size. There is one "from" size and one "to" size per run.
  • After resizing, recalculate the toolpaths that use those circles and check the preview before saving G-code.
  • The gadget only appears in the Gadgets menu after it is installed. See the entry on a gadget that does not show in the menu if it is missing.
